Murphys Creek Theatre is a small, professionally oriented theatre company located in the charming and historic goldrush-era town of Murphys, in Calaveras County, California. Founded in 1994, the company produces the annual "Theatre Under the Stars" outdoor summer theatre festival at the Cornelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center at Stevenot Winery. Since its founding in 1994, MCT's productions at Stevenot have grown steadily in popularity and critical acclaim, and have become a favorite summer tradition for both residents and visitors alike.
Situated in a lovely pastoral valley 2 miles outside of Murphys, Stevenot Winery's intimate 250-seat outdoor amphitheatre provides the perfect setting to enjoy an evening of live theatre under the summer stars.
MCT recently combined forces with the Black Bart Players, a nonprofit theatre in Murphys. Now the two entities work together to offer not ony shows at Stevenot, but also at the Black Bart Playhouse, 580 S. Algiers St., Murphys.

Under director Graham Green's guidance, it all works and doesn't seem intrusive or gimmicky. It might help some younger audience members better enjoy the Bard's work.
